For Bill Patchett, Thanksgiving this year is coming a week early – on the road in South Florida.
Patchett, president of Stamford-based P2 telecom, decided to participate in this year’s SmartRide bicycle marathon, a 165-mile ride from Miami to Key West that raises funds to fight AIDS. The two-day ride begins Friday morning.
Patchett has spent months preparing for the ride. He hired a personal trainer to help him get in shape for the grueling journey. He purchased an expensive racing bike and has been taking long rides along the highways and byways of Fairfield County. Using his company website as a fundraising base, he has garnered pledges of nearly $7,000.
“I’ve lived a good life, have a wonderful family and a successful business. It was time to give back and I thought that the ride would be a terrific way to say thanks for my good fortune,” Patchett said.
It’s also a way to spotlight his firm’s expansion into the South Florida marketplace. P2 telecom recently opened its first branch office, in Fort Lauderdale, and has established a strategic relationship with Cloud South, a colocation and disaster recovery company located in West Palm Beach.
P2 telecom is a provider of cost competitive, integrated telecommunications products and services on behalf of network carriers. Patchett founded the company in 2005 after serving as an executive director of sales for MetTel, a nationwide competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC). He helped MetTel evolve from a residential service company to an agent based business with billings of more than $100 million.
